How Medefer can help you in Greater London

With Medefer, you can get assessed by an NHS consultant within a few days.

Medefer is an award-winning outpatient service in London, offering trusted care for over 8 years, with over 400 GP practices referring patients to our service. You can receive an NHS consultant review within 48 hours of a GP referral. Your consultant will evaluate your case, deciding if you need further care. If there’s nothing to worry about, we’ll refer you back to your GP; otherwise, Medefer organises the next stage in your treatment journey.

We work closely with the NHS and your GP to deliver a personalised treatment plan. From organising tests to scheduling procedures and follow-up appointments, we’ll support you at every stage. Plus, we offer testing and treatment centres across the city, giving you a choice of locations to find what works best for you.

Medefer offers high-quality care as quickly as possible. Our partnership with the NHS speeds up access to specialist healthcare, ensuring you get the support you need without long waits.

Patient Choice:
Your right to receiving NHS care

Patient choice is central to the NHS Constitution for England. When your GP refers you to a specialist, you have the right to choose who will provide your care. It's an important right that many patients may not realise they have.

Medefer believes that patient choice positively affects your experience. When you're involved in decisions about your healthcare, it helps you feel more in control and confident about the treatment you receive. You can choose a care provider based on their reputation, waiting times, or location. Plus, you can access care faster, reducing the stress of waiting.

If you want to know more about your legal right to choose where you have your NHS treatment, you can find out more on this NHS website.

How Medefer works for you

1.

Referral process

Medefer receives your referral from your GP and assesses it based on specific criteria. We will either accept or reject the referral accordingly.

Backlog patients: We also support NHS hospitals and your care maybe transferred to us. Your hospital will inform you if this takes place.

2.

Starting your care with us

You will receive an introduction pack by post. Your consultant will review your case, then write to you and copy in your GP. Medefer typically completes this referral process within 48 hours.

Backlog patients: If you've been waiting for over 3 months, you may be asked to complete an online questionnaire or speak to a doctor immediately. You may also receive digital updates via email or SMS. After receiving the necessary information, your consultant will review it and provide feedback to both you and your GP.

3.

Ongoing care

Throughout your care, we will continue to communicate through the following options:

  • Tests: We will organise any tests as required. Results will be reviewed by your consultant, who will determine the next steps
  • Medication: You may be prescribed a course of medication, with follow-up discussions on progress
4.

Final discharge

Once your consultant has completed your care, they will either discharge you back to your GP with advice and a management plan or transfer your care to another service.

We will ask for your feedback at every stage of your care with us.
