Helping your patients get an earlier diagnosis

Introducing Medefer
Medefer is at the forefront of transforming the UK’s health system. As a CQC-registered healthcare provider, we work closely with NHS services, connecting patients with specialists across the UK. Our service empowers patient choice, making use of underused capacity within the NHS. This innovative approach frees up in- person outpatient capacity, cuts waiting times, and gets patients seen faster.
We’ve partnered with multiple NHS trusts and clinics, managing everything from consultations to diagnostics and management. Patients no longer have to wait for an in-person hospital appointment, providing outstanding patient care and guaranteeing an earlier diagnosis. As part of the NHS England Increasing Capacity Framework, we support CCGs and NHS Trusts to reduce outpatient pressure. It’s our mission to deliver the best healthcare experience possible.
How Medefer works for you the patient
- Provide expert medical advice faster with 48-hr consultant reviews. Our experienced consultants review cases and provide expert advice, meaning patients don’t have to wait weeks for an appointment
- Access specialists in hours, not weeks. With our wide network of specialists, we connect patients to the right expert, often within hours. This fast access ensures quicker diagnoses and treatments, speeding up recovery and peace of mind
- Receive quality care from the comfort of your home. We believe healthcare should be convenient. That’s why many of our patients are treated from the comfort of their own homes, reducing unnecessary hospital visits while still receiving top-tier care. If patients require a clinic appointment, we try to organise it near their home
- Enjoy seamless care with NHS integration. We work hand-in-hand with the NHS, ensuring that if patients need further treatment, all their information is passed on to the relevant providers. No delays, no missed steps—just a clear path to the care they need

If you’re facing a growing backlog, we offer specialised backlog clearance. It’s the relief service you need. Thanks to our efficient, consultant-led pathways, up to 70% of patients can be safely discharged back to their GP without needing an in-person appointment. That leaves room for patients who cannot avoid an outpatient consultation to get one sooner. Your backlog waiting list might seem insurmountable, but we can clear it in as little as 5 weeks, depending on the speciality.
A CCG commissioned Medefer to tackle a growing gastroenterology backlog, and within 12 weeks, we had successfully cleared 1,000 patients. Of those, 62% were discharged back to their GP with a complete care plan, while only 38% needed a follow-up outpatient appointment.
“The results speak for themselves. We’ve dramatically reduced the number of patients needing physical appointments, all while maintaining high-quality care through our innovative outpatient service.”
By partnering with Medefer, you can reduce wait times, streamline patient care, and manage your backlog more effectively—getting your services back on track faster than you might expect.
With the NHS contributing 5% of the UK’s annual carbon footprint, sustainability in healthcare has never been more important. In line with the NHS’s commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2045, Medefer offers a solution that significantly reduces emissions linked to patient transport for face-to-face consultations.
Patient travel alone accounts for 5% of the NHS’s carbon footprint, contributing to approximately 118 tonnes of particulate matter (PM) air pollutants and 2,602 tonnes of nitrogen oxides (NOx) each year. Medefer plays a key role in minimising these emissions by reducing unnecessary in-person attendance.
- 77% reduction in in-person outpatient visits, dramatically lowering transport-related emissions
- Equivalent savings of 421,752 kg of CO2e—comparable to avoiding 420 transatlantic flights
- Financial savings through an innovative outpatient model, which is more cost effective than traditional Trust-delivered outpatient services
Medefer’s innovative care model not only enhances patient outcomes but also helps the NHS move closer to its sustainability goals, reducing both its carbon footprint and operational costs.
We take governance seriously. As a Designated Body, our governance structure is led by our Chief Medical Officer, who serves as our Responsible Officer alongside a team of qualified consultant appraisers. Supported by our Medical Directorate, this team hold us to the highest clinical governance standards.
We regularly engage with the GMC and NHS Regional Medical Directors throughout the year to review and enhance our practices. In 2024, we are launching a comprehensive governance and risk management framework that integrates all aspects of our operations, from clinical services to technology. This framework will provide greater transparency and improve our organisation-wide performance.
Patient safety is at the heart of everything we do. Our approach aligns with the NHS Patient Safety Strategy, including the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), confirming we have robust systems in place to respond to and learn from any safety incidents.
We are always researching new methods to leverage our extensive data, further enhancing patient safety and refining our quality assurance measures. Through this continuous improvement, we are committed to delivering the highest standard of care.
